Idris Elba received a royal honor Friday and brought along a very special lady: His mother.
The 43-year-old Emmy and SAG Award-winning Luther and Beasts of No Nationactor was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, or OBE, at an investiture ceremony Prince William conducted at Buckingham Palace. Elba was honored for his services to drama. He posted on his Twitter page a photo of himself posing outside with his mother, Eve Elba.
“Made my *Mum very happy today!!” he wrote.
Also Friday, Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn was made an OBE for his services to music, retired soccer star Denis Law was named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to the sport and his charity work and Iain Douglas-Hamilton also received a CBE honor for his wildlife conservation work with elephants.
“Flying the East End flag at Buckingham Palace today!!!,” he wrote, referring to his old London neighborhood. “OBE Day….. How does the boy look? Feeling Proppa…:)”
Idris had in December been named an OBE recipient and was put on William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s annual New Year’s Honors List.
Past OBE recipients include Ewan McGregor and fashion designer Stella McCartney.
Idris had previously met William, as well as wife Kate Middleton, in late 2013, at a Royal film screening of his movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in Londo
