As if fans needed another reason to swoon over Chris Hemsworth…
The 32-year-old Australian hottie, who stars in the new Ghostbusters reboot and The Huntsman: Winter’s War, revealed in an interview with The Radio Times in the U.K. Wednesday that he considers himself a feminist.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Hemsworth said, adding, “My mum’s a big feminist. I think that my views on things, as far as respect for women and so on, came from my mum. My dad has a very balanced and respectful view on a lot of things too. They were huge positive influences in my life.”
And the next generation of Hemsworths is set to receive a similar education; the actor and wife Elsa Pataky are parents to a 3-year-old daughter, India, and 2-year-old twin sons Sasha and Tristan.
In his interview with The Radio Times, Hemsworth also touted the “badass female characters” in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, a prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, which is set for release on April 22.
Charlize Theron reprises her role as the Evil Queen Ravenna, while Emily Blunt plays her sister and Ice Queen Freya and Jessica Chastain plays Sara, a warrior and Hemsworth’s partner.
“I think the balance has been tipped for a long time heavily in the men’s direction,” the actor told The Radio Times about the film. “There are seven to eight male superheroes and one female in there. This is the opposite.”
“It’s exciting to be part of something like that,” he added. “But it’s a funny conversation to even have, because of course it should be that way. Of course it should be equal.”
The new Ghostbusters has an all-female main cast and is set for release on July 15. Hemsworth plays a role often played by a man: A receptionist.
“[It’s] a heavily female thing, which is really cool,” he told The Radio Times about the movie. “I didn’t plan it, I’m just happy to be a part of it.
