A dock worker reveals how his wife has left him TWICE for England soccer star Jermain Defoe .
Tony Calvert, 26, was heart-broken when Rachel first dumped him on Valentine’s Day.
The Newcastle United fan’s anguish was made worse when he discovered his wife’s new man is the ace striker of arch-rivals Sunderland.
Defoe, 33, gave his relegation-threatened Premier League side a lifeline when he scored in Sunderland’s convincing 3-0 win at Norwich.
And when Rachel’s affair with star broke down after the Sunday People pictured him with another woman, Tony decided to throw HER a lifeline for the sake of their three-year-old daughter.
His wife admitted living with the £70,000-a-week serial womaniser wasn’t all she’d hoped for – and compared their failed romance to a Hollywood film.
But now Tony has been left devastated after Rachel, 24, changed her mind AGAIN and told him she wants Defoe to play dad to their daughter.
In an exclusive interview Tony said: “I’ve read that he’s a born-again Christian. But he’ll still sleep with another man’s wife.
“He’s broken up a marriage and a family twice. I thought things couldn’t get worse after being dumped on Valentine’s Day but somehow they have. I feel a total fool.”
Tony, who married Rachel two-and-a-half years ago, first split with her in January but arranged a meeting on neutral territory the following month to patch things up.
While chatting in his car outside an Asda supermarket near their home in South Shields, Rachel dropped the bombshell she was seeing the top footballer and wanted a divorce.
Later that week she was pictured in her slippers taking out the bins at Defoe’s £2million mansion in Ponteland, Northumberland.
Rachel had met the star on a night out in Newcastle and a few days later he turned up at a club where she was working as a lapdancer.
Tony said: “He went to the club in trackies and hoodie. They let him in and he asked for her. He pursued her even though he knew she was married.”
But days later Rachel was knocking on Tony’s front door saying she still loved him.
Defoe, whose ex-girlfriends include models Imogen Thomas, 33, Chantelle Houghton, 32, and former Miss GB Danielle Lloyd, 32, had been pictured in the Sunday People leaving the Hilton hotel in Newcastle with Hayley Wilson. Hayley, 28, was previously shacked up with former footie ace Stan Collymore.
Shaken Rachel sent Tony soppy pictures of teddy bears with “husband” written on them.
She also sent a letter saying: “I mean it when I say I love you from the bottom of my heart, you’re my rock, my world, my foundation and my true soul mate and I will do anything to prove to you that we are meant to be together forever!!”
Tony said: “When she turned up she was crying her eyes out saying it was the biggest mistake of her life.
“She sent me this letter and was sending all these lovey-dovey texts saying she still loved me.”
He said Rachel kept comparing their relationship to the film The Notebook – a love-triangle romance starring Ryan Gosling set in the 1940s.
Tony said: “I hadn’t even seen the film so didn’t know what she was going on about. I have now – it’s rubbish.”
The couple moved back in together but after a few weeks Rachel went on holiday with girlfriends to America.
She returned at the end of March, but within a day things had changed again.
