Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike (CON) on Tuesday afternoon splashed sixty million naira on Go Round Football Club for gaining promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League and winning the Nigeria National League, NNL Super 4 in Lagos.

Governor Wike in a reception organised for the team at the Banquet Hall of the Rivers State Government House pledged the sum of N50, 000, 000.00 (fifty million naira) for the team and another N10, 000, 000.00 (ten Million naira) for the supporters club.

The governor also said he will give a 30-coaster bus to the team to aide its travels for League games.

“This money must go round to the players. I didn’t say the money should be used to run the club, it is for the players,” the governor said.

He also promised a training tour for the team abroad if they finish in top three at the end of the season.

The governor however warned that Go Round FC can not take the place of Rivers United since it is a club owned by an individual while the other is owned by the state.

“You should know that as governor of the state, the state team is important to me. You are my children but don’t think that the way I treat you is the way I will treat Rivers United,” Wike said.

General Manager of the club, Soni Uboh had earlier extolled the sporting virtues of the governor, listing his support for Rivers United and Angels, paying off backlog of sign on fees owed to Dolphins and Sharks as well as hosting the Super Eagles and Olympic football team in Port Harcourt amongst others.

Captain of the side, Nelson Esor said the players had for long waited for this gesture from the state governor and now it had come, would all work hard to ensure they finish in top three.
