Court sentence six persons to death by hanging for murder in Rivers State

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced six persons to death by hanging for murder.

The six convicted persons are Ibiso Duke Erekosima, Okparantha Alex Joshua, Adaye Dakoru, Ngeribokoa Omoniye Benibo, Onari Ekine, and Benebo Duke Erekosima.

The six convicted persons were sentenced to death for the murder of Lucky Moses and Iminabo Igonikon.

The convicted persons committed the crime on the 3rd of October 2004 at Ke Town in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The two persons were murdered over tussles in the youth election in that community.

The trial Judge, Justice Emmanuel Ogbuji while delivering his judgment sentenced the accused persons to death after they were found guilty of murder.

Justice Emmanuel Ogbuji said the court based his judgment on the confessions of the accused persons who admitted to committing the crime.

Reacting to the judgment, the principal state counsel, Deinma Tamuno Opubo said the judgment will serve as justice to the deceased family.

He also advises youths against cultism and crime.
