A clergyman Rev.Fr. Martins Amadi has advised couples to use the Valentine’s Day celebration to renew their marital vows.

Feast of Saint Valentine is celebrated annually on February 14.

It originated as a Christian feast day honouring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

Rev.Fr. Martins Amadi who doubles as the Parish Priest of St. Francis Catholic Church, Rumuokwuta said the feast of St Valentine is a perfect opportunity for couples to know themselves better.

”Why the church lays emphasis on Valentine’s Day is because of the way the world celebrates love which is different from the way the church will preach and celebrates love. The church encourages true love, the church encourages couples to truly stand on the vows they made to each other. Church again encourages true courtship from our youths. The church encourages everyone should have that Christian heart and show love. So not just the worldly way of celebrating love but a better way of having the love that Christ himself showed to humanity. That is what the church is talking about” he said.

The Parish Priest of St.Francis Catholic Church Rumuokwuta also asked the youths not to go astray while celebrating the Feast of St.Valentine.

He said that the feast is celebrated to show true love to mankind and not to be celebrated the worldly way.

Fr. Martins Amadi also advised parents to always talk to their young ones on issues relating to relationships and other social matters.
