Serena Williams has given birth to her second daughter, according to her husband, who added that both are “happy & healthy” after the tennis star’s first child’s traumatic birth left her fighting for her life.
Her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, wrote on Instagram under a picture of himself with a grinning Williams holding both of her daughters, “I’m grateful to report that our house is teeming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama.”
He used the term “you’re the GMOAT,” a fresh maternal spin on the athletic honorific Greatest Of All Time, to address his 41-year-old wife, saying that she had “given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT.”
One of the greatest players in history, Serena Williams, won the Australian Open in 2017 while carrying the couple’s first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., one of her numerous Grand Slam victories.
But after having Olympia through an emergency C-section, she almost lost her life a few months later after developing a blood clot in her lung.
After the pulmonary embolism, she was bedridden for six weeks, but she fought back and returned to competition five months later in the Fed Cup doubles with her sister, Venus.
Following her success for a generation, Williams announced her retirement from tennis last year.
After her final match last year, she declared, “I’m ready to be a mom and explore a different version of myself.”
