The Rivers State Police Command says the command has arrested some suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys who allegedly buried a newborn baby alive at Eagle Island.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the arrest said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation.
Grace Iringe-Koko said the suspects would be charged in court at the end of the investigation.
It was reported that men of the Nigeria Police, Port Harcourt Local Government Area PHALGA security, and Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch arrested 12 suspected internet fraudsters for allegedly burying a newborn baby alive in Rivers State.
It was also gathered that over 20 youths suspected to be internet fraudsters had gathered at Andoni Waterfront at Eagle Island axis of Port Harcourt Rivers State in the early hours of Wednesday (Aug 23, 2023) to make the sacrifice by the riverfront.
It was learned that the activities of the suspects had attracted the attention of some residents of the area who had reported the incident to the leader of a local vigilante group providing security in the area.
