The Commissioner of Police in Rivers Olatunji Disu says the Police Command will partner with the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in its fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers Olatunji Disu said this while receiving members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors Rivers State Branch in his office in Port Harcourt.
He said that the Police Command is open to collaborating with professional bodies like the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors to enhance the capacity of police personnel in intelligence gathering.
The Rivers CP said the Police need the expertise of surveyors in analyzing modern surveying tools that will aid security agencies in intelligence gathering.
The CP said the command is open for the surveyors to train Police personnel in map reading and other technological tools to ensure service delivery.
He further assured residents in Rivers State that the Police will not rest on their oars in protecting the lives and property of rivers people.
Earlier in his comment, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors Rivers State Branch Baridi Legbara said the surveyors is ready to assist the Police in providing modern tools to boost the manpower of the Police Command.
He said that the surveyors are committed to providing their expertise to enable the Police to curb crime and criminality in the state.
Baridi Legbara also said that the Surveyors in Rivers State will be open to train Police officers to enhance their capacity.
He further lamented the unwarranted attacks and killings of surveyors practicing in the state.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in Rivers State also called for adequate protection for Surveyors practicing in the state
Also speaking, the Surveyor General of Rivers State Noel Elenwo commended the Commissioner of Police for kick-starting the partnership between the Police and Surveyors in the state.
He opined that the surveyors in Rivers State are professionals willing to give back to society.
He stated that the partnership with surveyors would begin a new chapter in Rivers State and promised that the surveyors would assist Police in intelligence gatherings when called upon.
