A Non-Governmental Organization, the Rainbow Watch and Development Centre have called on Governments and Stakeholders to prioritize the plights of Street Children in the country.

The Executive Director of Rainbow Watch and Development Centre Micheal Gbarale made the plea at the sideline of an event to mark the 2024 International Day for Street Children.

Micheal Gbarale urged the government and stakeholders to address the urgent needs of street children by investing in their welfare and education.

“Rainbow Watch and Development Centre are urging governments and stakeholders worldwide to address the urgent needs of street children by investing in their welfare and education. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that no child is denied the right to a safe and nurturing environment”.

“The International Day for Street Children serves as a crucial reminder of the millions of vulnerable children globally who are forced to survive on the streets, devoid of basic necessities, protection, and education. These children, who find themselves in precarious circumstances, deserve immediate attention from authorities and a long-term commitment to facilitate their reintegration into society” he stated.

The Rainbow Watch and Development Centre noted that rehabilitation and reintegration of street children is an effective strategy to address the plight of street children.

The statement also called on relevant government agencies to recognize the potential of street children and work towards transforming their lives.

“Rainbow Watch and Development Centre calls upon governments and stakeholders to recognize the potential of street children and work towards transforming their lives. Investing in their welfare and education is not just an ethical obligation but also an investment in the future of our societies”.

“On this International Day for Street Children, let us collectively strive to protect and empower these vulnerable children, equipping them with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and marginalization. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of street children and create a brighter and more inclusive world for all” he said.
