A housewife, Kehinde Anifowose, has appeared before an Ikole Customary Court over a debt of N90,400 she incurred during her wedding. A trader, Dele Omotoyinbo, dragged the bride to court, claiming that she supplied Aso-Ebi fabrics valued N90,400 to the defendant during her wedding in Sept 2015 but failed to pay.
The case was first heard before the court on February 15, during which Anifowose wrote an undertaking to pay the money in instalment, with an initial payment of N30,000 at the end of February.
When the case came up on Monday, the bride was not in court, but her father, Mr Joseph Anifowose, told the court that his daughter was ill. He however said the she was able to raise the sum of N21, 000 out of the N30, 000 she promised to pay for the month of February.
The father appealed to the court to give the bride time to pay the money and promised to assist his daughter to meet the payment condition.
The complainant, however, lamented that the debt owed her was having negative effect on her business. The Court’s presiding officer, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, warned that the money must be fully paid by the end of April or the law would take its course.
She adjourned the case till April 4 for continuation of hearing.
