A three-day under-16 tennis classic has commenced in Port Harcourt at the Port Harcourt club 1928.
The tournament which is targeted at school children is sponsored by Chevron while the International Tennis Academy is organizing the programme.
The Director of the International Tennis Academy Godwin Kienka said the aim of the three-day tennis clinic is to get around 100 participants to play the game of tennis.
He said that the academy is also teaching the children about the basic skills of tennis and also some real-life training.
Godwin Kienka stated that the clinic will help to reduce the high level of youth restiveness in the Niger Delta which he attributed to unemployment.
The Director of the International Tennis Academy noted that the clinic will make the kids better persons because of the civil education they are giving the children.
He revealed that they have done the clinic in Warri, three centres in Lagos, and Akure while they will soon organize the clinic in Abuja after the on-going event in Port Harcourt.
The Game Mistress of Port Harcourt Primary School, Mrs. Cecilia Madumere said she was happy to see her kids participating in the tennis clinic.
She said that the clinic will help reduce social vices among the youths in the region.
Some of the students participating in the three-day clinic commended Chevron and International tennis academy for the life-changing clinic they have put together for them.
They said that the programme will boost their love for tennis.
They also said that the clinic has made them to understand the simplicity of the game of tennis.
