Nigeria has recorded 276 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 8,344.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known on Wednesday.
The PUNCH reports that 16 new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the country, making the total number of fatalities rise to 249.
The NCDC said, “Till date, 8344 cases have been confirmed, 2385 cases have been discharged and 249 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 276 new cases are reported from 15 states- Lagos (161), Rivers (36), Edo (27), Kaduna (19), Nasarawa (10), Oyo (6), Kano (4), Delta (3), Ebonyi (3), Gombe (2), Ogun (1), Ondo (1), Borno (1), Abia (1), Bauchi (1).
“On the 26th of May 2020, 276 new confirmed cases and 16 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.”
Nigeria currently has 5,708 active cases of COVID-19.
As of 07 pm on Tuesday, coronavirus has killed at least 347,723 people since the outbreak first emerged in China last December.
At least 5,541,590 cases of coronavirus have been registered in 196 countries and territories. Of these, at least 2,191,200 are now considered recovered, according to a tally by AFP.
3,565 new deaths and 86,893 new cases were recorded worldwide between Monday and Tuesday.
The countries with the highest new deaths are Brazil with 807, the United States with 636 and Spain with 283.
Europe overall has 173,665 deaths from 2,057,043 cases, the United States and Canada have 105,291 deaths from 1,758,341 infections, Latin America and the Caribbean 41,665 deaths from 774,772 cases, Asia 14,500 deaths from 466,830 cases, the Middle East 8,961 deaths from 358,699 cases, Africa 3,511 deaths from 117,423 cases, and Oceania 130 deaths from 8,491 cases.
