As a way of increasing awareness on ways to prevent coronavirus pandemic the Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA has taken their enlightened to the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
The President of Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA, Rotarian Veronique Tabai while donating palliatives to the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre said the gesture to improve the lives of the inmates at the correctional centre.
She said the gesture was part of Rotary Club mission to serve humanity.
Veronique Tabai also appeal to other individuals and corporate organizations to show an act of kindness to the society especially this period of coronavirus pandemic.
The President of Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA noted that many Nigerians have lost their means of income and any act of kindness would go a long way in reducing their sufferings.
”We are doing some research on areas we could spread love this period, and this happens to be a highly populated prison with over four thousand inmates and we thought that we should also share some love by distributing some palliatives to them”.
”We also know that the best way to educate the populace is for them to know top tips for preventing the spread of this pandemic. And we have done banners which we have mounted all over the prison yard so that prisoners as they go about their daily activities they can stop and look through at the best ways to curtail covid-19” she said.
The Chairman of Covid-19 Prison Project, Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA, Biobele Mangete said Rotary Club is using the palliatives to touch the inmates who have been neglected by the larger part of the society.
He said prisoners need love and compassion.
Our correspondent reports that items donated to the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre include, bags of rice, beans, cartoons of sanitizers and toiletries.
