Some female students of Rivers State University boycotted classes this morning to stage a peaceful protest on the campus following the robbery incident that left several students of the female hostel injured, and some of them allegedly raped and hospitalized.
The suspected hoodlums raided Black D, C, and NDDC female hostels of the institution.
The protesting students disclosed that the robbers, wielding guns and machetes, gained access to the campus through the back gate and stole laptops containing final-year projects, telephone sets, jewelry, money, and other valuable items.
Some of the students who spoke to our correspondent on the incident decried the ease with which the robbers gained access to the school and the poor response by the security agencies.

The President of the National Union of Rivers State Students, Michael Eboh, also in an interview expressed displeasure over the incident but added that the school management has promised to replace stolen items and improve security on campus.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Students Affairs, SOYE MAXWELL IYANABO who visited the campus said the school fence will be rebuilt and advised that manpower for the security of the campus will be addressed.
In the meantime, the Rivers State Police Command has directed the CP Operations, Area Commander, Port Harcourt, and Divisional Police Officer DPO Nkpolu to provide adequate security within the campus of Rivers State University.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka gave the directive following the armed robbery attack at the female hostel of the Rivers State University.
The Rivers State CP further called for vigilance and urged students, parents, and the school management to take advantage of the Police Control Room numbers to report suspicious activities
