Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has criticised the Federal Government for awarding the contract for pipeline surveillance to an individual in the region

Siminialayi Fubara said this when a Federal Government delegation on the security of oil and gas assets led by the National Security Adviser NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, visited him at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

He said the strategy of the Federal Government will not yield the expected results as an individual cannot have control over the assets in another’s territory.

Siminialayi Fubara further called on the delegation to ensure that the outcome of their task would be beneficial to both the Federal and the state governments.

He advised them to engage the people at the grassroots to better appreciate the situation in the Niger Delta area.

The Rivers State Governor also said that the state waged a strong war against the illegal refining of crude oil under the leadership of the immediate past Governor, Nyesom Wike, and that his administration will not lower the bar.

On his part, the NSA said the delegation is billed to visit Rivers and other Niger Delta states with marching orders from President Bola Tinubu to end crude oil theft and illegal refining of petroleum products.

In his comment, the Minister of State for Petroleum HEINEKEN LOKPOBIRI says the visit is to seek the collaboration of the Rivers State Government in the fight against oil theft in the Niger Delta.

HEINEKEN LOKPOBIRI further said the visit is to understand the challenges facing the Niger Delta State and how to curb the spate of oil theft and illegal oil refining in the region.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa while speaking during the visit assured that the Military will provide adequate security in the region.

He also said that the Military is committed to ending oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
