As a way of improving the sanity and health of students and youths in the state, the National Association of Eleme Students NAES has called on youths to desist from drug abuse and illicit substances.
The National Association of Eleme Students NAES made the call during a health Awareness Campaign at the Eleme Civic Centre with the theme My Health, My Sanity.
The National President of the National Association of Eleme Students NAES Caleb Eson Nwaka said that the aim of the programme was to sensitize the students on the dangers of drug abuse and unhealthy lifestyle.
”For now, we have been having complaints about how drugs have affected our youth in the Eleme Local Government Area and it happens to be one of the major problems we are facing now. I must say that there is peace and harmony in the community but drug abuse has done a lot of harm in society and has given us a bad name, and we as a student, decided to stand against it. That is why I decided to come up with this theme, ‘My Health My Sanity’. We decided to work with this theme and believe it will be a huge success” he said.
The National President of the National Association of Eleme Students NAES Caleb Eson Nwaka also tasked the forum and chapter Chairmen of the Association to take the campaign against drug abuse to every tertiary institution in the state.
”This planning was not just for me and my executive alone. I involved the forum heads and also the chapter presidents to come together and let’s see how we can take this to our schools and our different forums and enlighten the youth as well. Also, this is an open program. This program is not for only the students alone. This is a program for the general public because, among us, we can find under-graduates and even non-indigenous willing to participate in it. So I believe this will go a long way if we keep pushing it forward” he said.

The Medical Officer of Health Eleme Local Government Area Dr Lawson Jack Tonye, represented by Dr Babbo Diana tasked Nigerians to live a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet and having enough rest.
Also speaking, a Popular talk show host in Port Harcourt Honey Ojukwu also advised the participants to stay away from drug and substance abuse.
She said that drug abuse is a one-way ticket to destruction.
Our correspondent reports that the students also embarked on a rally within Eleme communities to sensitize the people on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
They also distributed fliers and educational materials to amplify their advocacy against the menace of drug abuse.
