…Demands Publication of Names of Shortlisted Candidates in Public Space.
Non-governmental organizations NGO’s under the umbrella of the Rivers Indigenous NGO’s and Civil Society Network (RINGOCS) have faulted the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, describing it as a sham, lacking in transparency, and falling below any known standard procedure for the recruitment of public officers.
RINGOCS is also accusing the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission under the leadership of Dr. Clifford Ndu Walter, of politicizing the recruitment process and denying qualified Rivers Son’s and daughters the opportunity to be part of the process by recruiting based on political patronage and not merit.

Chairman of RINGOCS, Tombari Dumka-Kote, stated this in a press statement issued after a meeting of some Civil society Organizations in the State to review the ongoing recruitment exercise as carried out by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission in Port Harcourt.
Dumka-Kote lamented that the way the recruitment is been carried out will make the state public service vulnerable to unqualified persons who may find their way into the system and further worsen the ill state of Public service in the State.
He called on the Rivers State Civil Service Commission to show that it is competent to carry on its activities or engage the services of qualified professionals as the government has done in the past during the recruitment of the 13,000 Teachers to ensure transparency and the recruitment of quality manpower for the State.
The group in noting that the pre-physical interview test conducted by the Commission online afforded Rivers people the opportunity to participate in the process, is also demanding that the names of successful candidates be published online and in local and national Dailies for all to have equal access than the Commission sending text messages to persons whom mostly failed the online-Test but had their names forwarded for employment by politicians trying to short-change the masses as alleged by many.
RINGOCS also queried with dismay the deliberate refusal of the Commission to make names of successful candidates public before the physical interview, insisting the Governor’s approval of the employment was to strengthen the State public service structure and effectively deliver the benefits of democracy to the people without recourse to mediocrity and promotion of laziness.

We are urging the Commission to immediately suspend the physical interview if it cannot tell Rivers People how the candidates to be sent text messages emerged and make the list public within the next 24 hours.
‘If the job from Rivers State Government is for Rivers People, then the Commission must show transparency and fairness to all. Those employed will be paid from the pocket of Rivers people and not the few politicians alleged to have hijacked the commission and the employment process.’ So the people have the right to know who has been shortlisted. We cannot afford a repeat of the incident at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, where the employment of over 6 months was canceled by the Governor of Rivers State due to the greediness of a few persons in hijacking the employment process’, RINGOCS stated.
