Following the removal of the subsidy on petrol, a non-governmental organisation, the Rainbow Watch and Development Centre has called on the Rivers State Government to Procure Modular Refineries to boost the economy and curb illegal Oil Refining in the state.

The Executive Director of Rainbow Watch and Development Centre Michael Gbarale said that Modular refineries are a cost-effective and efficient solution for smaller-scale oil processing, making them well-suited for the needs of Rivers State.

He noted that investing in modular refineries will create a sustainable industry that will benefit the economy and also protect the environment.

“Rainbow Watch and Development Centre, an advocate for sustainable development in Rivers State, is urging the state government to take immediate action in procuring modular refineries to enhance job creation, ensure steady fuel supply, boost the economy, and eradicate illegal refining of crude oil”.

“Illegal oil refining has been a longstanding issue in the state, leading to environmental degradation, health hazards, and government revenue loss. By investing in modular refineries, the government can provide legitimate job opportunities for citizens, reduce reliance on imported fuel, and increase revenue by selling refined products”.

“Modular refineries are a cost-effective and efficient solution for smaller scale oil processing, making them well-suited for the needs of Rivers State. The Executive Director of Rainbow Watch and Development Centre Michael Gbarale said that establishing a modular refinery in Rivers State will promote economic development and ensure a brighter future for all residents.
